Glucophage 500mg is used to control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is mostly preferred in individuals who do not experience much changes in blood glucose level by exercise, weight reduction or diet changes. It works by reducing the amount of glucose synthesized by the liver and helps to restore the body’s normal response to the insulin naturally produced in the body.
What dose should I choose?
In adults, the initial dose is 1 tablet (500 mg) of Glucophage 500mg taken 2-3 times per day during or after a meal. The dose may be adjusted after a few days according to the blood glucose levels.
The dose should not exceed 3 gm or 6 tablets in any 24 hours.
In the elderly (over 65 years), the dose is adjusted by the doctor based on the renal function.
What are the side-effects and other warnings when taking Glucophage 500mg?
Many people using Glucophage 500mg do not experience any side-effects. Some side-effects may disappear on their own as your body becomes adjusted to the drug. Some common side-effects include:
