Uses of Adcetris 50mg Injection
Adcetris 50mg injection is used to treat several types of lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. However, it’s important to understand that it specifically targets cancer cells expressing the CD30 protein. Here’s a breakdown of its approved uses:
Hodgkin Lymphoma:
Untreated Stage 3 or 4: In combination with other chemotherapy drugs like doxorubicin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine, for adults with previously untreated advanced classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
Relapsed or High-Risk Relapse: For adults with Hodgkin lymphoma that has relapsed (come back) after stem cell transplant or other treatments or are thought to have a high risk of relapse.
Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL):
Untreated Systemic ALCL: In combination with other chemotherapy drugs like cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisone, for adults with previously untreated systemic ALCL.
Relapsed or Refractory ALCL: For adults with ALCL who have relapsed or are resistant to other treatments.
Other CD30-expressing Peripheral T-cell Lymphomas (PTCLs):
Previously Untreated: In combination with other chemotherapy drugs, for adults with previously untreated PTCLs like angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and PTCL not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) that express CD30.
How Does Adcetris Injection Work?
It works in a targeted way to specifically attack cancer cells, minimizing harm to healthy cells compared to traditional chemotherapy. Here’s a breakdown of how it works:
Adcetris contains a monoclonal antibody, which acts like a precise lock seeking out a specific key found on certain cancer cells. This key is a protein known as CD30, present in some lymphoma cells.
When Adcetris finds and attaches to the CD30 protein, it’s like delivering a hidden weapon inside the cancer cell. This weapon is a powerful drug that interrupts the cancer cell’s ability to grow and divide, eventually causing the cell to die.
How Should You Take Adcetris 50mg Injection?
To take the Adcetris 50mg injection, you should follow these steps under a healthcare professional’s guidance:
We’ll calculate the correct dose for you based on your weight and the prescribed treatment plan. Typically, the starting dose for Adcetris is 1.8 mg/kg, administered once every 3 weeks.
To prepare the injection, we’ll adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions:
Withdraw 50 mg from a single vial using a syringe.
Add the withdrawn content to an infusion bag filled with either 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, 5% Dextrose Injection, or Lactated Ringer’s Injection, to achieve a final concentration between 0.4 mg/mL and 1.2 mg/mL.
We’ll gently mix the solution by inverting the bag, making sure not to shake it.
Throughout the preparation process, we’ll employ aseptic techniques to reduce the risk of infection.
The Adcetris solution should be infused immediately through a venous access device, typically over a 30-minute period.
After the infusion, it’s important to dispose of any unused portions and waste materials according to local regulations.
